Direct Reports: Grounds Crew
Valley Lo Club is seeking an Assistant Golf and Grounds Superintendent to lead our grounds operations and be a key part of our exciting future. Works directly with the Superintendent to manage the Grounds team in the care and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, lake, ponds, and equipment. Currently the club is embarking on a Master Plan renovation consisting of a complete redesign of the course layout and constructing a brand-new sports center with simulators. Starting in June/July of 2026, we will begin construction on the golf course with the new design, install new irrigation and pump system, re-grassing of all greens, tees, fairways, and implementation of native areas throughout. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking professional growth and advancement in golf course management.
Responsible for assisting the Superintendent in the operating functions of the Grounds Maintenance Department. The assistant superintendent will contribute to staff management, training, supervision and retention; and will play a hands-on role in accomplishing the construction, planting, grow-in and maintenance of the golf course. Other operating functions will include turfgrass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, assisting with forecasting and expense management, long- and short- term project planning, scheduling and maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, related recordings, and compliance with regulatory issues as directed by the Superintendent.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Active participation in all aspects of golf course maintenance, purchasing, budgeting, and capital project budgeting and implementation.
- Assist Golf Course Superintendent in providing agronomic direction for the healthy growth of the golf course, Clubhouse grounds grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials.
- As directed, supervise the crew, and assist with job scheduling and responsibilities.
- Supervise the application and recording of chemical applications on the Club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Attend regular meetings as directed with management and employees to review Club operations, maintenance and golf activities schedules, and safety environmental issues.
- Supervise the safe use and maintenance of the golf course mechanical equipment by employees.
- Assist in implementing maintenance programs set by the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Assist in snow removal and winter preparation for clubhouse events.
- Assist Superintendent in diagnosis, prioritization, and ultimately implementation of tree removal program (safe operation of chainsaw, chipper, and other necessary forestry implements).
- Ensure staff is working within OSHA, Club safety, and state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. Provide technical, operational, and safety training for employees as directed.
Classification: Salary/Exempt
Education and/or Experience
- 1-3 years in Golf Course Maintenance
- A college degree, preferably in agronomy, horticulture, or environmental science field a plus.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Pesticide Application certification or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hiring.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours.
