- Assistant Professor in Chemistry
Description
The Department of Chemistry of the Université de Montréal is one of the most productive and dynamic chemistry departments in Canada and internationally. Its stellar reputation is based on the excellence of its faculty of 33 professors, several of whom are distinguished scholars and hold prestigious chairs. The Department's laboratories are located on a new campus dedicated to the natural sciences (https://campusmil.umontreal.ca), with state-of-the-art laboratories (materials characterization, mass spectrometry, NMR, X-ray diffraction), which offer researchers well-equipped platforms, managed by research professionals. The Department is extremely well integrated into a dynamic research community, within the Université de Montréal (e.g., biological sciences, computer science, physics, environmental health) and across Quebec and Canada.
Day-to-day responsabilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:
Teach undergraduate and graduate classes and develop pedagogical initiatives for our new undergraduate program, with a focus on environmental chemistry;
Develop a high-level research program in environmental chemistry while extending the frontiers of the discipline. The department strongly encourages applicants who will develop a research theme of current interest (e.g. environmental big data, atmospheric chemistry, urban contamination, emerging contaminants of interest) with a high potential impact. Candidates with a theme related to artificial intelligence or environmental big data could also apply for a position as an IVADO Professor (consortium for research, training and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence), which offers enhanced start-up conditions;
Supervise graduate students;
Contribute to committees and to the development of the Department, the Faculty, and the Institution through participation in scientific, administrative and social activities;
