The Chemistry Program at the University of West Georgia (UWG) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2026.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and to developing a vigorous undergraduate research program in sustainable chemistry or in an emerging area that would complement existing strengths within the program. The primary teaching responsibility will be 3/3 teaching load with a combination of lower-level and upper-level undergraduate lectures and labs. The lower-level courses will be mainly in the areas of organic chemistry or introductory chemistry for health sciences. The successful candidate will develop new upper-level courses with a focus on sustainability and incorporate sustainability components in other classes they teach. The successful candidate will pursue external research funding to support their research program and seek out interdisciplinary collaborations with other entities on campus as well as local industries.
Department Information
UWG Chemistry Program in the School of Field Investigations and Experimental Sciences offers Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degrees, including American Chemical Society (ACS)-certified, Pre-professional, Business, and Secondary Education options. The program values excellence in teaching and undergraduate research. All chemistry majors participate in one or more semesters of undergraduate research with a Chemistry faculty member. Our instrumentation includes 400 MHz NMR, FT-IR, Raman, TCSPC, UV-Vis absorption and emission spectrometers, HPLC, GC-MS, and AFM. The program aspires to increase interdisciplinary collaboration with Biology, Physics, and Earth and Environmental Science programs as well as local industries, especially in the area of sustainability.

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or another related field
ABD (All But Dissertation) Candidates will be considered, if completed before August 2026.

A research proposal (3-5 pages), including a list of required instrumentation and addressing involvement of undergraduate students
A statement of teaching philosophy (1- 2 pages)
Unofficial copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts
A list of three (3) professional references, with contact details (name, affiliation, and email address) – Three letters of recommendation will be requested prior to the phone interview. At least one letter should specifically address teaching.
The statements may also include plans to foster students from diverse backgrounds in research and classrooms.
