The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance position, beginning in Fall 2026. We seek a motivated scholar to contribute to our fast-growing space in Financial Technology (FinTech). The successful candidate will be dedicated to conducting high-impact research, delivering excellent teaching, and engaging in services to the university and the profession. A key aspect of this role is a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with WPI’s renowned faculty in technology, engineering, and analytics.
Successful candidates should also be interested in the development of corporate finance and investment management research and pedagogy which integrates emerging financial technologies such as AI etc. They will distinguish themselves by their interest in collaborating with colleagues from departments with technology, engineering, and analytics expertise. They will embrace the opportunity to be part of new educational and research programs in these financial areas.
Responsibilities
Develop and deliver engaging courses in Finance at the undergraduate and graduate levels, potentially including areas such as Corporate Finance, Investments, or Financial Markets.
Conduct and publish high-quality research in leading academic journals.
Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, fostering their academic and professional development.
Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary research and curriculum development.
Engage with the professional community and contribute to the visibility and reputation of The Business School and WPI.
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date of employment (ABDs near completion will be considered).
Demonstrated potential for high-quality scholarly research and publication.
Evidence of, or clear promise for, high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research and teaching interests in Corporate Finance and Investments.
Proven success or demonstrated interest in working with interdisciplinary project teams and projects.
A track record of excellence in teaching finance courses, including innovative teaching methods or experience with online/hybrid formats.
