In collaboration with the communities in Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, El Monte, South El Monte, Whittier, portions of Norwalk, La Mirada, Downey, La Puente, the City of Industry, Los Nietos and Avocado Heights, Río Hondo College provides an exceptional academic curriculum to meet the unique needs of our region and strengthen our communities.
Basic Function/Definition
Automotive Technology currently consists of General Automotive, Heavy Equipment, Alternative Fuels, Bureau of Automotive Smog Programs and Factory supported programs. Among the courses taught are beginning, intermediate and advanced classes. Classes are offered both on and off the campus during the day, evenings and weekends. Facilities on campus included 6 labs which all have been remodeled and a fleet of 80 training vehicles. The program is NATEF certified in Automotive, ATMA Certified- Association of Technology Management, and Applied Technology, ATTS Certified- Automotive Technician Training Standards. The successful candidate must be ASE certified in G1, and all eight (master) certified in order to teach plus L1 for those teaching Engine Performance within one year of employment.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students in the assigned discipline
- Develop curricula, instructional methodology, strategies
- Advise students in both group and individual contacts
- Assist students in improving time management and learning skills
- Participate in institutional activities including but not limited to flex and staff development
- Perform peer reviews as required in the association contract
- Participate in other contractually required activities
- Meet regularly with discipline/division peers
- Provide support for discipline/division recruitment, research and development
- Participate on institutional committees and activities
- Work towards continuous personal growth and development
- Perform other duties as directed or specified by Board Policy, California Education Code, or Faculty Association contract.
- Assignments may be either day or evening, weekday or weekends or online.
Automatic Transmission, A3-Manual Drive Train and Axles, A4-Suspension and Steering,
A5-Brakes, A6-Engine Repair, A7-Electrical/Electrical Systems, A8-Engine Performance.
ASE G1-Certification
ASE L1 Certification as well as all other ASE Educational Foundation/NATEF Standards for current Program Instructor Certification.
The Full-Time Automotive Technology Bachelor’s Degree Instructor position may include additional responsibilities with accompanying assigned release time as the B.S. Program Coordinator for Auto Tech.

- Successful candidate is responsible for verifying all prior work experience and providing all academic transcripts for purposes of salary placement.
