Job Title: Program Coordinator – Camp Woodie
Department: Education
Reports To: Education Program Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Exempt
Pay Grade: $60,000
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator at Camp Woodie works closely with the Education Program Director to plan, coordinate, and oversee camp programming. This role ensures that all camp activities are delivered safely, on schedule, and in line with SCWA’s mission. The Program Coordinator will provide leadership to facilitators, counselors, and support staff, manage daily schedules, coordinate resources, and help maintain a positive, engaging, and mission-driven camp environment. Year-round, ongoing full-time position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the planning, scheduling, and execution of daily camp activities and special events.
- Supervise and support program staff, facilitators, and counselors to ensure high-quality delivery of activities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for camp staff, ensuring equipment and materials are ready and in good condition.
- Assist with staff training, including facilitation techniques, safety procedures, and program delivery standards.
- Oversee camp set-up, breakdown, and maintenance.
- Monitor program areas to ensure safety, quality, and camper engagement.
- Step in to lead activities or cover staff absences as needed.
- Support the Director with staff scheduling, program adjustments, and problem-solving during camp sessions.
- Ensure activities meet ACA standards and align with Camp Woodie’s educational and conservation mission.
- Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents when needed to address questions, concerns, or behavioral issues.
- Assist in the creation of social media and marketing content related to camp programs.
- Maintain inventory of program supplies and submit restocking requests as necessary.
- Support emergency procedures and ensure all safety protocols are followed.
- Attend SCWA special events and represent Camp Woodie as assigned.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Camp Woodie Director.
- Manage the camper/parent survey process.
- Planning and preparation for the following camp season.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to foster a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing schedules and needs.
- Knowledge of outdoor education, recreation, and youth development best practices.
- Ability to work a non-traditional schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
- Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR before the start of the season (training provided if needed).
- Successful completion of staff training prior to the beginning of camp.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, environmental science, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in camp, youth programs, or outdoor education leadership roles.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Physical Requirements:Physical presence during all camp hours of operation required (including overnight and weekends)
- Ability to lead and participate in camp activities that may include hiking, canoeing, climbing, and other outdoor programs.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and program-related safety concerns.
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 lbs.
- Endurance to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Daily exposure to sun, heat, insects, and wildlife.
