Description
MGH Seeking Clinical Laboratory Geneticist for Pathways Consult Service
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) seeks an outstanding clinical laboratory geneticist to join our faculty as part of the Pathways Consult Service (https://www.massgeneral.org/medicine/pathways).
The Pathways Consult Service at MGH is discovering insights into the causes of disease through the close investigation of a single patient. When medical staff encounter patients whose cases raise fundamental questions regarding unknown mechanisms of disease, they can refer them to the Pathways Consult Service where a team will devote two weeks to investigating the pathophysiology of one of these patients. With guidance from scientists, teams generate hypotheses and propose ways to harness new technologies like next-generation DNA sequencing, induced pluripotent cell culture and proteomics to shed light on poorly understood disease processes. The Pathways Consult Service provides an unparalleled educational experience to the residents, promotes cutting-edge scientific research and has the potential to tangibly improve the health status of patients at Mass General and beyond.
The clinical laboratory geneticist will oversee the sequencing and interpretation of genomic data to assist investigation of Pathways Consult Service cases. The clinical laboratory geneticist will also lead an annual 2-week course for residents in genetic and genomic analysis including hands-on instruction to interpret genome sequencing data. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Pathways Consult Service Executive Director and Faculty to ensure high standards in the application of genomics to medical care. As a member of the Pathways Consult Service within DGIM, the clinical laboratory geneticist helps implement advanced approaches and supports an equitable, efficient, patient-centered healthcare system.
We seek a clinical laboratory geneticist who is eager to contribute to the clinical, educational, and scholarly missions of our Division at MGH and Harvard Medical School. Academic rank at HMS (Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, including expertise in clinical genetic testing, medical education, research, and community service. Effort for this program is estimated at 5%. A successful candidate is expected to support their salary and space requirements through grants and clinical service.
Candidates must be board certified in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Clinical Molecular Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Candidates who are board-certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will also be considered.
Position located in Boston, MA.
