POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Philanthropy Business Intelligence will lead the development and execution of data strategies that optimize philanthropic efforts within Scripps Research. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development Information Services, this leadership role will collaborate closely with the IT department and centralized analytics team to enhance data integration, analytics, and reporting processes. The successful candidate will ensure that data-driven insights support and inform fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and overall philanthropic performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Data Strategy and Leadership:
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive data and analytics strategy that supports the organization's philanthropic objectives.
- Collaborate closely with IT and centralized analytics teams to integrate and manage data across various platforms, including donor databases, CRM systems, and fundraising platforms.
- Partner with IT to ensure data accuracy, security, and integrity while overseeing the design and execution of data systems and infrastructure that support fundraising activities
Analytics and Reporting:
- Oversee the creation of detailed reports, dashboards, and data visualizations that provide actionable insights for fundraising teams and senior leadership.
- Work with IT and analytics teams to create advanced predictive models and segmentation strategies to enhance donor acquisition, retention, and engagement efforts.
- Develop systems for measuring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring the philanthropy team can assess the effectiveness of key initiatives.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement appropriate business intelligence (BI) tools and technologies to improve data analytics and reporting capabilities.
- Ensure that all systems and technologies are optimized to support efficient data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Collaboration with IT and Centralized Analytics Team:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between philanthropy, IT, and analytics teams to ensure seamless collaboration and the integration of data systems.
- Partner with IT teams to ensure that the right technology tools and platforms are in place to collect and analyze data effectively.
- Coordinate with centralized analytics teams to align data strategies with broader organizational goals and ensure consistent data definitions and reporting structures across departments.
Leadership:
- Foster a collaborative, data-driven culture within the philanthropy team and across the broader organization.
Strategic Insight and Decision Support:
- Provide leadership with data-driven recommendations to inform philanthropic strategies, including the identification of high-value prospects, donor engagement opportunities, and regional market development.
- Use advanced analytics to provide insights into donor behavior and trends, driving more personalized and effective fundraising campaigns.
Performance Evaluation and Reporting:
- Develop and track metrics to assess the effectiveness of philanthropic programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Deliver regular updates to senior leadership on fundraising performance, donor engagement, and overall philanthropic impact.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related field. Experience in the nonprofit or philanthropy sector is highly preferred.
- Proven track record of managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with IT and centralized analytics departments to drive data strategies.
- Expertise in advanced analytics techniques such as predictive modeling, segmentation, and trend analysis.
- Proficiency in business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce, R, Python) and data management platforms.
- Strong understanding of data integration, database management, and CRM systems.
- Familiarity with analytics methodologies and tools that support donor segmentation, campaign analysis, and predictive analytics within a fundraising environment.
- Strong leadership and team management experience, with the ability to drive collaboration across departments, particularly with IT and analytics teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- While subject to change based on business needs, this position can operate fully on-site or remotely from our La Jolla campus.
