JOB SUMMARY
Systems Engineer (Journeyman) to support the Systems Engineering Department (SED) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The program is providing systems engineering support of weapons systems on various platforms, including technical research and development of technologies, analysis, and documentation as part of the acquisition of Aircraft, Weapon, and Integrated Systems and the evaluation of their technical performance, mission suitability and associated acquisition risks throughout the full acquisition process and lifecycle of a program.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Office: PMA-273 (Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems Program Office) is responsible for managing the aircraft, simulators, and associated systems that support the U.S. Navy's undergraduate pilot training pipeline.
- Provides engineering and acquisition support to the Assistant Program Manager for Systems Engineering (APMSE) in the management of the T-6B Texan II - primary fixed-wing training aircraft.
- Performs programmatic or technical knowledge identifying, formulating, designing, and/or testing practical solutions to engineering problems; guiding the engineering development of modern complex systems; and employing systems engineering methods and tools in the development of systems. Key Responsibilities:
- Support systems engineering activities related to sustainment, upgrades, and safety of the T-6B Texan II.
- Monitor system performance, integration and airworthiness.
- Coordinate with stakeholders across NAVAIR, training squadrons, and contractors to ensure fleet readiness and training mission effectiveness.
- Contribute to risk management, technical documentation, and compliance with acquisition standards.
- Perform tasks with little or no guidance or leads the execution of complex tasks.
- Has demonstrated knowledge in the area of engineering expertise.
- Engineering support for the development of the Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile Extended Range (ARGM-ER)
- Engineering support for the High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM), AGM-88.
- Apply engineering principles to investigate, analyze, plan and design, develop, implement, test, or evaluate military weapons systems.
- Reviews and prepares engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation.
- Apply systems engineering methods and tools in the development of advanced complex systems and perform functions such as system integration, configuration management, quality assurance testing, or acquisition and resource management.
- Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, tests, or evaluates software, components, or systems related to engineering or functional requirements of military weapons systems, associated support systems.
- Performs programmatic or technical leadership roles in an organization identifying, formulating, designing, and/or testing practical solutions to engineering problems.
- Guides to the engineering development of modern complex systems.
- Perform tasks with little or no guidance or leads the execution of complex tasks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical field or scientific field from an accredited college or university
- Must have three (3) years of recent and relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required
- Fixed-Wing Aviation Experience: familiarity with aircraft systems, flight training operations, or acquisition support for fixed-wing aircraft
- Knowledge of systems engineering processes and naval acquisition lifecycle.
SECURITY CLEARANCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
- Must be a US Citizen
- Driving or renting a car for company business is expected with some frequency. For insurance purposes, a valid driver's license is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
- Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position for meetings, trainings, and/or site visits.
