JOB SUMMARY
Systems Engineer (Journeyman) to support the Systems Engineering Department (SED) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD. The program is providing systems engineering support of weapons systems on various platforms including technical research and development of technologies, analysis, and documentation as part of the acquisition of Aircraft, Weapon, and Integrated Systems and the evaluation of their technical performance, mission suitability and associated acquisition risks throughout the full acquisition process and lifecycle of a program.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Office: PMA-273 (Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems Program Office) is responsible for managing the aircraft, simulators, and associated systems that support the U.S. Navy's undergraduate pilot training pipeline.
- Role Focus: Support programmatic and systems engineering tasks for the TH-73A Thrasher, the Navy's primary rotary-wing training aircraft.
- Performs programmatic or technical knowledge identifying, formulating, designing, and/or testing practical solutions to engineering problems; guiding the engineering development of modern complex systems; and employing systems engineering methods and tools in the development of systems.
- Monitor system performance, integration, and airworthiness
- Coordinate with stakeholders across NAVAIR, training squadrons, and contractors to ensure fleet readiness and training mission effectiveness.
- Contribute to risk management, technical documentation, and compliance with acquisition standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical field or scientific field from an accredited college or university
- Must have three (3) years of recent and relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in an area of engineering expertise is required
- Fixed-Wing Aviation Experience: familiarity with aircraft systems, flight training operations, or acquisition support for fixed-wing aircraft
- Knowledge of systems engineering processes and naval acquisition lifecycle.
SECURITY CLEARANCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
- Must be a US Citizen
- Driving or renting a car for company business is expected with some frequency. For insurance purposes, a valid driver's license is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
- Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position for meetings, trainings, and/or site visits.
