We are seeking to fill multiple Human Factors Professional Positions (Human Factors Engineer, Applied Cognitive Scientist, UI/UX Designer) to perform collaboratively with internal and external engineering and software development teams to analyze, create, develop and improve the design of complex, computer-based and automated software systems for use in high-consequence environments. Candidates should be capable of working flexibly in small multi-disciplinary teams on several concurrent projects, with minimal supervision. Requirements
Human Factors Engineer
Responsibilities
- Develop creative and evidence-based solutions to complex, applied human factors challenges to develop new systems or improve existing ones
- Lead or contribute within multi-disciplinary teams, accomplishing human factors engineering activities involving representative end-users of systems, cognitive scientists, designers, software developers, and program stakeholders
- Plan and execute human factors research efforts including development of user personas, articulation of complex workflows, and analysis of use-case environmental conditions
- Document research, analysis, findings, and recommendations in human factors engineering artifacts and products
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Advanced degree in Human Factors Engineering or a closely related field
- Mastery of and ability to apply Human Factors standards and measures
- Experience with/knowledge in applied Human Factors research, to include working with users in operational environments, useability testing and analysis, creation of user personas, articulation and analysis of complex tasks and workflows, system and user requirements definition
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DOD security clearance as required by DOD government contracts (DOD security clearance requires US citizenship)
- Ability to commute to/from home to PSE office location and client sites (to include military installations)
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- 3 or more years of applied industry experience
- Experience conducting user-centered design of software systems and user interfaces
- Ability to work collaboratively in, and when needed lead, small multi-disciplinary teams
- Background in UI/UX design
- Experience with experiment design and the measurement of human performance in applied or laboratory environments
- Experience planning and leading workshops with the representative end-users of target systems
- Experience creating innovative information visualizations with tools like ggplot2 and D3, and/or coding interactive software prototypes in languages such as JavaScript or R Shiny
- Experience with computational modeling and simulation, automation/algorithm development, and/or applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (e.g., for classification, anomaly detection, and clustering)
- Experience with user interface and graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe XD or Adobe Illustrator)
- Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) programs, domains, and technologies
- Occasional travel to user, collaboration and client sites (both domestic and international)
Applied Cognitive Scientist
Responsibilities
- Identify user task needs and design user interface solutions through the application of cognitive science and human factors methods and literature
- Document research, analysis, findings, and recommendations in industry-standard formats
- Present project plans and user-centered design methods, analyses, results and solutions to users, software development teams, customers, and acquisition communities
- Lead and contribute to project proposals and business development
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Advanced degree in Cognitive Science, Cognitive or Perceptual Psychology, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or a closely related field
- Ability to learn quickly, reason critically, and think analytically to understand the scope of a problem, identify user challenges, and propose and evaluate solutions
- Ability to work collaboratively in, and when needed lead, multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Proficiency with MS Office suite or equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DOD security clearance as required by DOD government contracts (DOD security clearance requires US citizenship)
- Ability to commute to/from home to PSE office location and client sites (to include military installations)
Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- PhD in Cognitive Science, Cognitive or Perceptual Psychology, Engineering Psychology, Human Factors, or a closely related field
- 3 or more years of experience solving applied problems with complex systems in real-world work domains
- Experience conducting user-centered design of software systems and user interfaces
- Knowledge of the applied human factors and cognitive science literature, including areas such as human decision-making, human attention, human-automation interaction, spatial comprehension, and information display
- Experience with experiment design and the measurement of human performance in applied or laboratory environments
- Experience planning and leading workshops with the representative end-users of target systems
- Experience creating innovative information visualizations and/or coding interactive software prototypes in languages such as JavaScript (DataTables, D3) or R (ggplot2, Shiny)
- Experience with computational modeling and simulation, automation/algorithm development, and/or applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (e.g., for classification, anomaly detection, and clustering)
- Experience with user interface and graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe XD or Adobe Illustrator)

UI/UX Designer
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams performing human factors research, design, and development
- Design and develop a wide range of products including design requirements, wireframes, mockups, low-to-high fidelity prototypes, or high-fidelity prototypes of user interfaces for a variety of domains.
- Develop creative and evidence-based solutions to complex, applied problems
- Assume responsibilities and contribute at all levels in project teams
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree or certificate in user-system design, development & integration
- Proficiency and experience in graphic design with Adobe XD, Balsamiq, Adobe Illustrator, or other similar software
- Experience with/knowledge in Design Systems, UI Component Libraries, Front End Frameworks and how they impact design
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government DOD security clearance as required by DOD government contracts (DOD security clearance requires US citizenship)
- Ability to commute to/from home to PSE office location and client sites (to include military installations)
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- 3 or more years of applied industry experience
- Experience in design and prototyping of software interfaces
- Experience in human-computer interface development or equivalent technical background
- Experience in leading and managing small teams
- Experience planning and conducting user events and design workshops
- Strong portfolio of representative work
- Proficiency with MS Office suite and analysis software
- Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) programs, domains, and technologies
- Occasional travel to user, collaboration and client sites (both domestic and international)
