What You Will Do
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the Instructional Designer and Technologist collaborates with faculty and staff to provide guidance and support on instructional design projects. This role involves assisting in the design, development, and delivery of online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses and programs. The consultant will work closely with faculty and staff to offer strategies and best practices for effective teaching and training, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with educational standards.
- Instructional Design Consultation: Consult with faculty and staff members on instructional design projects, providing instruction and direction on all course and program design, development, and delivery aspects.
- Curricular Strategy Development: Provide faculty and staff with curricular strategies and best practices for teaching and training in online, hybrid, and face-to-face course or program formats.
- Training and Workshops: Create and/or provide instruction, consultations, workshops, and other informational resources for faculty and staff to build, maintain, and/or improve teaching and training skills and approaches.
- Collaboration with Student Support Units: Collaborate with student support units and initiatives to design, develop, deliver, support, and assess for improvement informational, training, or event-specific programs and resources, working with subject matter experts to develop content to deliver or support these activities.
- Educational Research: Research current trends in online learning and educational technologies, establish their pedagogical applications, and partner with faculty and staff members on their integration into their course or program curriculum.
- Research and Development: This work sometimes leads to coordinated research projects, publications, and grants. Research design strategies are sometimes in conjunction with other IDs and provide instruction and direction to faculty and staff on implementing design strategies within course or program curricula.
- Learning Technology Support: Support faculty and student users of learning and content management systems and related learning technologies.
- Training Design and Coordination: Design and coordinate faculty, staff, and student training workshops, programs, and resources, producing content to instruct users on various topics or programs.
- Compliance and Standards: Partner with faculty and appropriate campus units to ensure all online/hybrid and technology-enhanced courses and programs meet all applicable standards and regulations.
- Policy Development: Assist in developing policies for online/hybrid courses and programs and help establish evaluation procedures that help ensure continuous improvement.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Master's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy
AND
Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
OR
Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities
AND
Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
Preferred Qualifications
Years of experience may be concurrent.
Master's degree in Instructional Design or related field.
1 yr exp. with instructional design & online/hybrid learning strategies and implementation, preferably in Higher Ed.
1 yr exp. with academic technologies and their application.
1 yr. exp. with content development systems and processes, preferably using Articulate to produce resources and objects.
1 yr exp. supporting LMSs, preferably Blackboard.
1 yr. exp. training, preferably in Higher Ed.
1 yr professional experience using WIN & MAC OSs and Microsoft Office products.
Must be able to manage numerous projects concurrently & meet appropriate deadlines.
Experience in collaborative atmosphere, excellent brain-storming capabilities, detail-oriented, & the ability to accept constructive criticism.
Must be self-motivated and flexible in accepting duties & instruction.
Experience with web page design concepts, multimedia design skills, digital video and audio, and other relevant tech.
Ability to learn complex new technologies quickly & independently.
Ability to explain complex ideas & technologies to non-technical people in a clear & understandable manner.
Must be able to communicate effectively in a variety of settings with people with a wide range of knowledge, skills, & experience.
Must have excellent time management skills.
