Position Summary
The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia invites applications for one position with expertise in sensors, controls or robotic systems and an application focus supporting automation in precision agriculture, advanced manufacturing or control systems.

This position seeks to identify highly qualified candidates with expertise at the intersection of sensors, controls and robotics with application in current area of high societal impact including precision agriculture, advanced manufacturing and electric mobility. This position will be centered in the College of Engineering's School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and will be supervised by the School Chair of ECE.

Building on its areas of key research strength, the College invites applications for one open rank, 9-month tenured or tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with research interests in topics associated with sensor development, control systems or robotics systems development. The ideal candidate also has interests that support application of their research expertise in areas of strength within the UGA College of Engineering including Integrative Precision Agriculture, Advanced Manufacturing or Electric Mobility. This position willstart on August 1, 2025, and will be an academic-year appointment (9 months) with an opportunity to supplement salary during the summer.

Candidates considered for the associate professor rank must have qualifications and academic credentials commensurate with the promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia.

The focus of this hiring initiative will be in the three areas of current need within the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering including:

1. Sensor development including but not limited to microelectronic sensors, solid state sensors, optical sensor and sensors based on advanced applications of electromagnetics.
2. Control Systems with particular interests in control for autonomous systems, advance manufacturing applications and automation of agricultural applications.
3. Robotic Systems with a focus on development/deployment of functional robotic systems with applications in precision agriculture or advanced manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is expected to work collaboratively with existing faculty at the University of Georgia, including faculty in cross-cutting units such as the new Institute for Integrative Precision Agriculture, the Advance Manufacturing and Innovation Factory, and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, among others. Applicants with strong background developing industry collaborations are encouraged to apply.

The new faculty member will be expected to develop a vigorous, high-impact, externally funded research program; work closely with other members recently hired to these research clusters and existing faculty; effectively mentor graduate students and postdoctoral scientists; effectively support our teaching mission at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment within the university.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must also have a documented research background appropriate for the appointment rank, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, in the application of sensors, controls or robotics in application that include precision agriculture, advanced manufacturing or electric mobility. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
