Description
The Project Manager leads Product Development projects within HME's Clear-Com division for audio communication equipment used in broadcasting and live events productions. Projects are of varying scale and include hardware, software, test, regulation compliance, procurement, manufacturing, and quality assurance for new or improved products. The Project Manager will lead multi-functional and cross-departmental development teams to reach project goals while supporting best project management practices. This includes all the tools and dashboards required to track time and budget from feasibility study to product release, following HME's product development process. The Project Manager is responsible for completing projects within time, cost and performance constraints.
We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager (Technical).
What you will do in the position:
- General Responsibilities
Leads New Product Development (NPD) or Sustaining project teams.
Assists other Project Managers in managing large-scale NPD projects.
Leads or assists in planning and execution of development projects, from the initiation phase to production release with a focus on hardware development, test, procurement, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
Suggests improvements to the New Product Development Process.
Works with other project managers on the creation of standard tools, templates, metrics and dashboards to monitor projects.
Details and confirms the project objectives with the customer (nominally the appropriate Product Manager & senior management).
Creates the project plans for each approved product development effort. Confirms the timescales, costs and resources needed.
Applies advanced project management skills to hardware, software and system projects.
Establishes, maintains and communicates project milestones and timelines.
Conducts risk assessment and manages risk, including monitoring the project's critical path and contingency planning.
Assists management with resource planning.
Negotiates with and manages contractors for services as required.
Completes projects within time, cost and performance constraints that are acceptable to internal and external customers.
Ensures development teams meet interim and final deliverables.
Prepares and presents project status to senior management staff, including progress, problems, project risks and potential risk mitigation plans.
Implements product development process improvements with the goals of reducing project cycle times while continuing to meet internal needs.
Assists with special projects as requested.
- General Support
- Maintains and develops good working practices within the department.
- Continually examines and improves the company SOPs and working practices both within the department.
- Provides support to other projects both within engineering and externally.
- Supervision of Staff
- Under the supervision of the Director of Program Management, serves as a cross-functional project manager, responsible for coordinating efforts of part of, or all Core and Extended Team members from across the organization to achieve program objectives.
- Acts as a leader to other employees to implement and improve standard product development and project management practices across the company; drives the discipline needed for project execution excellence.
- Provides an open environment and promotes teamwork across the organization; acts as a catalyst to remove organizational barriers.
- Ensures development teams meet interim and final deliverables.
What you will need to succeed:
- Qualifications
Firm understanding of Project Management practices, with clear examples of successful product launches.
Good knowledge of business practices and protocols.
Experience in electronic product manufacturing, programming and test.
Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.
Technical skills relevant to project management.
Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment without direct authority over team members.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong presentation and influencing skills (executive presence).
Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Organizational, planning and detailed follow-up skills required; demonstrates ability to plan a project and execute to a timeline.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while juggling multiple projects

- Bachelor of Science
- PMP Certification
- Experience
- 3-5 years of project management experience
- Experience working with hardware (electrical and mechanical) and software engineering teams driving product development to meet project requirements
- Experience with introducing/releasing product designs to manufacturing/production
- Knowledge of Lean Product Development and the Lean A3 Problem Solving Process
- Travel: <10%
- Required to be onsite during office days
The posted pay range, $94,800 to $126,400, is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. This may vary depending on experience and other factors. Our benefits package includes tuition reimbursement; 3 weeks paid vacation your first year, paid holidays, medical, vision, and dental coverage, pet insurance, life insurance, and 401K contributions.
