Research Scientist
Seeking a Research Scientist to work in a dynamic and fast-paced Translational Oncology research laboratory at the Hillman Cancer Center of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The candidate is expected to work independently following the guidance of a physician-scientist/principal investigator in the Department of Radiation Oncology and will carry out experiments investigating pediatric brain tumors and radiopharmaceutical therapy. Experimental work will include cell culture, flow cytometry, CRISPR, Western Blot, DNA/RNA extraction, cell viability assays, mouse work including orthotopic tumor implantation, weighing mice, treating tumor-bearing mice with external beam radiation treatment, monitoring tumor growth via IVIS, harvesting mouse tissues for further analyses, and coordinating with the magnetic resonance imaging and in-vivo imaging facility at the Hillman Cancer Center. The candidate is also expected to work with collaborators at the Hillman Cancer Center and University of Pittsburgh and excellent written and verbal communication is needed. The candidate is expected to prepare reports of findings after compilation and analyzation of data. Develop documentation for publication, crafts manuscripts and grant proposals. Prepares data, graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results for publication. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals; perform literature searches; summarize findings for reports and written documentations.
Education and experience requirements
Doctorate in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, bioengineering, biomedical engineering and one year of experience/exposure in the previously mentioned fields is preferred. Ability to accommodate flexible work schedule given nature of experimental work. Good verbal and written communication are needed given collaborations with other labs and expected independence. Demonstrated ability in science with evidence of abstracts, posters, presentations, and papers is helpful.
Job Summary
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
Essential Functions
